Terms and Conditions
Rental policy
Please note that our rentals are per 24 hours periods. Return must be done at the same time of the day as the pickup (e.g. 9am pickup = 9am return), otherwise additional hours will account for extra day of rental. But if you need extra hour or two don’t be scared to ask! We are flexible whenever we can.
Category policy
In the event where the camper you have requested is not available, we reserve the right to substitute vehicles with similar or higher-class vehicle.
We will always guarantee the number of seats/beds that you requested. However, we cannot guarantee the exact model of camper van that will be delivered to you. For this reason, the vehicle´s interior and layout may differ from the images displayed on our website.
Car condition policy
The lessee must return the campervan in the same condition as he received it. In the event of damage to the vehicle or camper being dirty inside without prior payment of cleaning fee, charges may apply!
Campervan cleaning charges for which staff will party!!!!!
€ 50 for: A-AA-AB-D-G-H-I-J campers
€ 100 for: B-BA-C-CA-E-EA-F campers.
Fuel policy
The rental camper will have a full tank of fuel. The car should be returned full. In the case of where the tank is not full the campervan should be returned with the same amount of fuel as when the rental began.
If the fuel tank is not returned the same, we will fill it up. However, 10% surcharge per liter of fuel and €10 refueling charge will be applied. KúKú Campers does not cover the fuel expenses of its customers.
E-mail policy
Even though you might be excited and, in a hurry, to receive an answer from us, we reserve the right to answer your emails within 48 hours for the busiest days. Having said that, don’t be surprised if you receive a response within few minutes! However, if you do need answer right away just give as a call.
Damage policy
In the event where a damage is made on the car while it is in the possession of the customer, a quote will be established to sum up the fixing costs. However, please note that it can take up to 10 working days for KúKú Campers to send the final documents.
We always have to take the car to our partner garages to get it checked/estimated.
Therefore, it might not be ready by the time the lessee goes back home so he will have to show a little bit of patience.
Be sure that our team is doing its absolute best to answer as fast as they can.
Obligations of the Lessee:
- The lessee agrees to the provisions of this lease and has received a copy of it.
- The lessee will return the automobile:
- With all accessories (including tires and tools) in the condition they were in when received, with the exception of normal wear due to use.
- On the date specified by this lease, unless otherwise agreed later,
- To the lessor’s premises, unless otherwise agreed.
- If the lessee does not return the automobile at the time agreed upon in this lease, or does not declare his intention to extend the lease, the lessor or the police are authorized to repossess the vehicle without further notice and at the lessee’s cost. Extending the lease is dependent on the consent of the lessor. If the lessee returns the vehicle 1 hour or later after the lease has expired, the lessor is authorized to demand up to 24-hours rental under the terms of this lease.
- The vehicle shall be handled and driven carefully. Only those named as drivers on the first page of this agreement are authorized to drive the automobile. The lessee is liable for damage resulting from use of the automobile for which no compensation will be paid by the vehicle’s insurance company. This includes damage to the automobile and/or injury to passengers due to the following:
- Off-road driving,
- Driving across rivers or any kind of water course,
- Intentional acts or gross negligence,
- Use of intoxicants by the driver,
- Vehicle use that contravenes Icelandic law and/or the provisions of this lease.
- In the event of a collision or accident, the lessee shall immediately notify the appropriate police authorities as well as the lessor of the incident, and the lessee may not leave the scene before the police have arrived.
- The lessor is not responsible for the disappearance of or damage to property that the lessee or any other party leaves in or transports with the vehicle.
- The lessee agrees to pay the lessor, upon request:
- A deposit amounting to the estimated cost of hiring the car.
- Any and all expenses incurred by the lessor if he has to bring the vehicle back to his premises, in the event that it has been left somewhere without supervision, without regard to the condition of the vehicle, the roads, or the weather.
- The lessee is not authorized to have repairs done or make changes to the vehicle or its accessories, or to put the vehicle up as any kind of security, without the prior consent of the lessor.
- The lessee is liable for all parking meter charges and fines for breaking traffic laws and accepts to pay a 50€ processing fee if the lessee has to process the payments.
- The lessee is not authorized to use the vehicle to transport passengers for payment, loan it to others, or sublease it.
- Lessee is obliged to return the vehicle with full tank of gas or the same level as received. If otherwise, lessor will be authorized to refill the vehicle and charge 10% surcharge per liter of fuel and €10 refueling charge will be applied.
- Lessee shall not smoke in the vehicle. Smoking or smell of cigarettes in the car will result in the penalty fee of 500€.
Obligations of the Lessor: - The lessor undertakes to supply the vehicle at the agreed time and to see that it meets the demands made for it.
- If the vehicle malfunctions, the lessor is responsible to fix the vehicle as soon as possible.
- The lessor shall disclose to the lessee the contents of this lease and in particular the obligations that he undertakes with his signature.
- The lessor shall inform a foreign lessee regarding Icelandic traffic regulations, traffic signs, and regulations banning off-road driving. The lessor shall particularly point out the dangers stemming from animals on the roads.
- If the lessor wants to limit use of the vehicle with regard to its equipment and/ or road conditions, this shall be done in writing when this lease is signed.
- The lessor undertakes to maintain valid liability insurance for his business operations.
Insurance: - The lease sum/rental fee includes mandatory vehicle insurance, including liability insurance and accident insurance for the driver and the owner.
- Third-party liability insurance will consist of the amount stipulated by Icelandic law at any given time.
- The lessee can purchase separate accident (All-risks) insurance. This policy will specify the amount deductible in each instance of loss.
- Exceptions from any insurance are listed below and will not cover any costs in case of:
- intentional damage or damage due to gross negligence on the part of the driver,
- damage resulting from the driver being under the influence of alcohol, stimulants or sedatives, or in any other way incapable of driving the vehicle in a safe manner,
- Damage due to race or test driving,
- Damage due to war, revolution, civil unrest, riots,
- Damage done by animals,
- Holes burned / burn into seats, carpets, mats or kitchen table
- Damage affecting only wheels, tires, suspension, batteries, glass (other than windows), radios, or loss by theft of parts of the vehicle and damage resulting from this,
- Damage caused by driving on rough roads to the vehicle’s transmission, drive, other parts that are in or attached to the chassis; damage to the chassis resulting from the vehicle scraping bottom on rough roads as a result of ridges being left by road graders; stones lodged in the road surface or on the shoulder of the road. The same applies to damage occurring when stones are thrown up, striking the underside of the vehicle during driving,
- Damage resulting from driving in places where vehicle traffic is banned, such as paths, tracks, banks of snow, ice, unabridged rivers or streams, beaches, places only accessible at low tide, or other trackless areas. However, compensation will be paid for damage if the driver is forced to leave the road, for example, due to road repairs.
- If lessee is spotted or somehow caught on off road driving, driving on F-roads with a non 4x4 vehicle, driving on closed roads or any road which is not suitable for the vehicle currently driving, lessee accepts to pay additional fine of 500€.
- Damage caused by sand, gravel, ash, pumice, or other kinds of earth material being blown onto the vehicle.
- If the vehicle is transported by sea, no compensation will be paid for damage caused by sea spray/seawater.
- Damage to the door, fender, hinges or any other part damaged due to the wind catching the doors
- In other instances, reference is made to the general conditions for accident /All-risks insurance.
- The lessee may purchase Super collision damage waiver (SCDW) to limit liability to 750€ (see exceptions section 22). The SCDW covers towing fee in case of immobilization after collision with third party only, not for off-road driving, towing out after being stuck in sand, snow, mud
- If SCDW insurance is not purchased, the lessee will be responsible for any liability up to 3,000 Euros (see exceptions section 22) and any potential towing fee.
General Provisions: - If errors or mis-pricing occurs the lessor has the right to cancel any reservations.
- This lease agreement shall always be kept in the vehicle during the term of the lease.
- Additions and amendments to the conditions and provisions of this lease agreement shall be made in writing.
- Icelandic law applies to agreements made on the basis of the terms cited above. This includes any claims for compensation that might be made. This applies both to the basis for and the calculation of compensation. The same applies to claims for damages based on liability outside this agreement. If legal disputes arise concerning this lease agreement, they will be heard before the lessor’s legal venue.
- Disputes between the parties to this lease agreement can be submitted to the active Arbitration committee of the Icelandic Consumers Association and the Icelandic Travel Industry Association.
- The lessee gives permission to the lessor to charge for damages that occurred during the rental up to the insurance liability (see exceptions section 20). Lessee also gives permission to the rental company to keep his credit card information and sign the payment voucher in his name.
- Privacy policy: the information that is gathered by the company during the use of this website, will only be used for the purposes as indicated and in accordance with Icelandic law nr. 77/2000. KuKu Campers will not give any information to third parties without the explicit permission of the visitor, except by demand of law enforcement. Furthermore, we strive to secure visitor information in such a manner that third parties cannot access this information. While great care is taken to prevent third party access, KuKu Campers cannot be held responsible if information is obtained illegally by third parties. Our booking site is operated on the SSL Secure platform.
